Tanzania
The nation of Tanzania is one of the most biodiverse places on the planet, yet lack of access to basic services, poor infrastructure, and epidemics such as HIV have stalled development in the country. As a result, more than a quarter of the population is estimated to be living below the national poverty line. This has an impact on every aspect of a person's life, devastating families, destroying local businesses, and draining communities of their resources and hope.
Tearfund, a Christian charity, is on a mission to help equip churches across Tanzania to lead lasting change in their communities through local solutions, as part of its Transforming Communities programme.
Working with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania's East and Coastal Diocese, the programme envisions and then equips the church in practical ways to work with the local community.
It helps identify local needs and mobilise the resources required to bring about restoration and transformation in a way that is holistic, community-driven, community-led – and long-lasting.
Tearfund has already partnered with more than 30,000 churches worldwide through the programme, helping communities lift themselves out of poverty for good, and we are honoured to be partnering with Tearfund as part of this growing work.
